Vignanaveda. Vignana means science; Veda means knowledge.

Where our ingredients begin. Four departments on the manufacturing campus, so a project runs end to end, next to production and quality control.

Follow a botanical

From a sack of roots to a specification.

Scroll through the work a botanical goes through at Vignanaveda before it becomes one of our ingredients.

  1. Gloved hands sorting raw botanical material in a steel tray01

    It arrives.

Raw botanical material is opened, sorted and looked over by hand before anything else happens to it.

  2. A scientist taking a reference sample from the herbarium shelves02

    It is matched.

Our reference sample library holds authenticated botanicals and their monographs. A new lot is compared against them.

  3. A scientist at the microscope, plant cells on the monitor03

    It is looked into.

Under the microscope, the plant's cell structure is one more check that the material is what its label says.

  4. Two rotary evaporators with a chiller04

    It is extracted.

Phytochemistry draws out the compounds that matter; rotary evaporators then concentrate the extract gently, under vacuum.

  5. Scientists discussing a chromatogram printout05

    It is measured.

HPLC, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy record identity, purity and the marker compounds, and the team reads the results against the specification.

  6. A scientist pouring liquid onto a botanical powder in a steel tray06

    It is formulated.

Formulation development turns a characterized extract into an ingredient, or a multi-active blend, that holds up on a manufacturer's line.

  7. A gloved hand writing in a lab notebook07

    It is written down.

Every step goes into the record, so a batch can be traced back and its paperwork answered.

Inside the formulation lab

Tap around the bench.

Two Vignanaveda scientists talking at the formulation bench, rotary evaporators between them
  1. Rotary evaporatorsTwo units remove solvent under vacuum, concentrating an extract without overheating it.
  2. Recirculating chillerCools the condensers so the solvent can be recovered.
  3. Heating bathHolds the turning flask at a set temperature.
  4. Glassware rackClean glassware dries here between runs.
  5. Fume hoodVolatile solvents are handled under extraction.
  6. Reagent benchReagents, samples and glassware staged for the day's work.

Quality control · on the same campus

Every result comes off an instrument.

The quality-control laboratory works alongside Vignanaveda: chromatography, analytical balances and a restricted-entry microbiology lab, so what research specifies is what production releases.

The name

Vignana, science. Veda, knowledge.

An atom, a lotus and an open book: The mark on the laboratory wall says what the centre is for. Classical knowledge of a plant, read with the methods of modern analytical science.

The published record

Our work, in journals.

Research behind the EASI™ actives, in peer-reviewed journals. Each paper is described with its study type; lab studies are not results in people.
